Permanent Makeup Methods

THREE  METHODS

1.  Manual Method (SofTap (TM))

Note:  One's choice of machine or non-machine method is a personal preference.   Prospective students should research the different methods of of permanent makeup and decide for themselves which method they feel most comfortable learning first.  Later, after mastering one method, another method can be learned if desired.

Manual Method

With this method, there is no electrical machine.

Pigment is tapped into the skin by hand, by a lifting technique using the  manual tool.

The manual tool consists of a handle and needle assemblies. The needle assemblies are either already attached to the handle (single use - 100% disposable),  or a recent SofTap (tm) product line allows for handles to be purchased separately from needle "click"-together tips or needle assemblies to be attached to the handle.  So simple.

With the manual method, the needle assembly is set upon the surface of the skin, then lifted slightly forward and  upward, to penetrate the dermis. A soft tapping sound is heard.

Color is implanted by using various pointillism, lining or shading techniques. Backup manual tool(s) and/or needle-assemblies are recommended.

The SofTap 100% disposable Comfort System (manual method) is the method in use at Lasting Impressions and the method which is taught.

Reciprocating Machine (Coil): This method involves the traditional electric tattooing machine that body tattoo artists use in their work also. A "tube" is the apparatus which houses the needle bar assembly and attaches to the machine. The electrical reciprocating motor is so called because intermittent electromagnetic contact between the contact screw and the armature bar, causes the needle and tube attachment to move up and down with each contact and release. It's typical buzzing noise is indicative of rapid intermittent electrical contact points, pulling the needles and armature bar up and down. Color is implanted under the skin by guiding the needle attachment over the surface of the skin. The needle thrusts penetrate the epidermis and reach the dermis. Various techniques are used -- pointillism, ovuvoid, lining or shading techniques. An autoclave is required to sterilize non-disposable items such as tubes, however an array of disposable tubes are now manufactured. A backup machine and power supply is advisable.

Rotary Machine (Pen Machine): This electrical machine resembles a digital thermometer in shape or a ballpoint pen, thus the Pen Machine nickname.  It has a tiny rotary-style motor in the casing at the bulb of the machine. It moves machine parts in a circular motion causing the needle attachment to move rapidly up and down, but usually, this is not as aggressive as the coil machine, neither in the number of thrusts per second, or in the force with which the needles thrust. There is a humming or whirring noise from this machine as the circular motion of the motor apparatus performs. Color is implanted by using various pointillism, ovuvoid, lining or shading techniques. A backup machine and power source is advised. An autoclave is required to sterilize any non-disposable parts there may be. It will depend upon the machine brand used.
